Frequently Asked Questions
How do you differ from other dance schools?
Our primary difference is that we are a faith-based dance academy, much like a private Christian school. We meet the needs of families from all religious faiths and backgrounds who are looking for a dance school that is more conservative in their choice of music, costuming and choreography, and to whom service and quality is a top priority! Our material is appropriate for audiences and dancers of any age and our professional staff members are great role models for students. Our floor is another one of our major differences – our professional floating Marley dance floor offers additional cushioning and support to help prevent injuries and fatigue. We also have full time office staff, which means the person teaching the class is not distracted with administrative details, and there is always someone available to assist you with your customer service needs. We also keep our class sizes small. We also never, ever require our students to fund raise to cover dance school activities.
Can we watch class?
Our one way observation windos are provided in our new studio. We also hold a parent observation week in February where we allow parents to sit in the classroom.
Can I sit in on my child’s class?
If the parents sit in it is too distracting for the students. There are too many authority figures and the children either lose class time looking for Mom & Dad’s approval, or they act out to see what reaction they will get. We encourage parents of young children to wait in the lobby so that if they are needed they are close by, however you are also free to leave during class.
How can I help my child at home?
One of the best ways parents can help their children is to expose them to performances, art galleries, buy ballet books and videos. This will open a whole new world not only for your child but for yourself as well. Also, always explain to your child to be as open as possible to corrections when taking class. They should have a clear understanding of their corrections so they can apply their correction. Applying corrections is one of the quickest ways to gain a level. We do NOT encourage parents “coaching” their students at home. Students always progress quickly and correctly when working in the classroom with our dance professionals. Private instruction is available upon request.
What if I have questions or concerns?
Please keep in mind that the faculty/instructors always have the best interests of the students in mind. Our main goal is to see our students learn and progress. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress or class schedule, please contact your child’s instructor or the school director at any time. General studio questions can be directed to our front desk staff.
What is the difference between Jazz and Hip Hop?
The jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway type show such as “Cats”. It is a more structured, stage style of dance. Hip Hop is a fast, higher energy type of dance seen in music videos and commercials. Dance moves seen in concerts and music videos is usually considered Hip Hop.
What is autopay and do I have to sign up for it?
Autopay is the payment method used by Chara Christian Dance Academy. This is where your monthly tuition comes out of your credit card automatically on the first of every month. The only other option besides autopay is to pay each session upfront before your first dance class. When you pre pay, you receive a 5% discount on your tuition. When you sign up for autopay in August it is good through May. After May, you will have to re-register each year. Autopay will not continue, unless you sign up for another session.
Where are you located?
Our new music and dance studio is located at 101 Hunters Lane on the Corner of FM 528 in Friendswood. We are close to parent favorites, Starbucks and HEB!
What if my child is interested in making her high school drill team?
Our goal at Chara Dance is to help your child achieve their dance goals! Many of our students have gone on to make teams like the Friendswood Wranglerettes, Clear Springs Silverados, Pearland Prancers, Alvin Jacketeers and Clear Lake Flairs. We highly suggest that girls interested in drill team take as much dance as possible starting as early as elementary school. Ballet, Lyrical and Jazz classes are essential for learning great dance technique. Tap and Hip Hop are also encouraged as many teams choose girls for these special dances who have a strong background in them. Being a part of our competitive companies (auditions in May) will give your daughter valuable competition and performance experience which will help her make the team!
